Rock Concerts

The Rock Concerts is a body of works in three parts that brings together sculpture, live-performance, experimental sound, new technologies. In the loosest sense it take the increase of rainfall in the North West of England as the starting point for a playful evocation of humankind’s complex relationship with nature and our often futile attempt to gain control it. Ambient recordings captured in the mouth of a disused mine during heavy rainfall provided the starting point for interpreations by collaborating sound artists and DJ’s. An 8 channel sound installation of free standing, simulated “rock-speakers” referencing the environment of the mine, spread live mixes creating trancelike, rhythmic and ritualistic soundscapes hovering between abstraction and dance track. The work takes its cue from the previous video installation ‘Playing the Cave. Loosely based on the notion of a ritualistic “stop the rain dance” Rock Concert II is a visceral response to the increase of rainfall in the Lake District due to climate change
